BT Europe Invests in Lawson M3 in Significant European Deal
Lawson applications to support BT Europeâs aggressive growth plans in truck market
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (January 16, 2007) – Lawson Software (Nasdaq: LWSN) today announced it has signed a contract with truck manufacturer BT Europe. BT Europe will use the Lawson M3 solution for its sales, service and distribution functionality, and will involve 1,400 employees in 16 countries around Europe. Lawson will carry out an upgrade of the BT Europe’s existing Lawson M3 (formerly Movex) system, to the Java-based Lawson M3 5.2 version. The system is scheduled for full implementation by the end of calendar year 2008. The contract was signed in Lawson’s second quarter of fiscal 2007, which ended Nov. 30, 2006.
BT Europe is part of Toyota Industries and has undergone extensive organizational changes over the past year. It aims to continue unifying its activities in its various countries of operation with a more efficient approach to management. The new business system will help the company manage business in several markets with a higher degree of coordination. BT Europe will be able to improve employee access to information regarding key business processes, which will help improve efficiency and customer service and provide tools that can help increase profitability and growth. BT Europe’s goal is to expand in the European market and secure Toyota Industries’ leading position on the world market.
“We need to establish a stable foundation in order to be able to grow,” said Bo Sivenius, information systems manager, BT Europe. “We expect that the new business system will increase efficiency, and increase our sales, such as in our after-sales services. This will also provide a greater visibility into our business processes.”
BT Europe chose the Lawson M3 system after very careful evaluation of various alternatives on the market. An analysis of the company’s potential business opportunities was carried out with the help of Lawson Opportunity Analyzer, a strategic management tool that is part of Lawson’s M3 product offerings. Opportunity Analyzer allows senior business managers to identify, in advance, quantified financial and non-financial gains before committing capital expenditures to new business improvement projects. The analysis pointed out business improvement opportunities that could be achieved through a new business system. BT Europe plans to address several of these opportunities using the new version of Lawson M3.
Among the areas for potential improvement, BT Europe sees the opportunity to increase sales through the proportion of contracts that focus on service. BT Europe also intends to reduce lead times in the delivery of trucks by gaining greater control of customer orders. Today BT Europe has 1,400 service technicians equipped with handheld computers connected to Lawson M3. Together with improved logistics surrounding spare parts, Lawson M3 will help the company provide customers with better, faster service.
