Dorma Selects Lawson to Gain Greater Visibility Within Global Supply Chain
London, UK (May 09, 2006) – Lawson Software, Inc. (which includes the former Intentia International AB)announces that Dorma, a UK-based manufacturer and distributor of bed linen, has selected Lawson enterprise resource planning (ERP) software to be used across its businesses. The software will give Dorma the necessary planning and procurement functionality to support its recent move to an international demand driven supply chain. The initial project will encompass 30 users and incorporate information from more than 120 outlets in the UK that sell Dorma goods and link to its China sourcing operations. The system is expected to go live before year end.
Dawson International acquired Dorma in 2005 and conducted a business review that resulted in the outsourcing of Dorma’s manufacturing from the UK to the Far East. This prompted Dorma to replace its outdated legacy system with an ERP solution that could accommodate the new complex demand driven supply chain and provide complete visibility of its goods in real-time. Lawson’s Business Performance Measurement, Professional Planner and Demand Planner solutions were chosen to address these needs.
Lawson’s software will help Dorma improve and simplify its business processes, remove disparate silos of information and assist in reducing overall overhead costs.
“Since Dorma was acquired by Dawson International in 2005, the company has undergone a series of critical changes to its business structure, operation and long-term vision, said Mike Hartley, Chairman of Dawson International. “As a result, we needed a technology that could support our new business requirements and adapt to fit our planned future growth. We decided upon Lawson because they demonstrated a thorough understanding of Dorma and the fashion industry, and could provide a software solution which would be easily deployed to solve our immediate and long-term business needs.
Business Performance Measurement, Professional Planner and Demand Planner solutions are part of Lawson’s M3 product suite. Two of the key features of Lawson M3 for Dorma were its modern web browser interface and Java-based infrastructure. The web browser function gives Dorma employees the ability to access information remotely such as stock levels and delivery schedules using an Internet connection, while the Java infrastructure helps make implementation of the ERP package with Dorma’s existing and future systems an easier process.
“Dorma is currently going through a critical period of change and is boldly redefining its business to fit and take hold of a highly competitive market, said Vicky Hyde, Industry Director of Fashion, Lawson. “We are extremely happy that Dorma has chosen Lawson to be the backbone of its supply chain. We believe that our software and Dorma’s business know-how will form a productive and successful relationship that will drive the company forward and help it meet its long-term business objectives.
